Why do people still watch the Oscars?
It is always terrible and everyone spends Monday morning complaining about it.
Every year, it is a boring parade of bad fashion and self-congratulatory speeches meant to make the movie industry seem important. And, while movies are sometimes important, such films are rarely among the movies included in the Oscar festivities. The 2009 Oscars were no different.
Seriously, can we just admit that the Dark Knight was horrible. Really, really, horrible. Boring, soulless and stiff and, let’s face it, if Heath Ledger hadn’t died, no one would’ve given a second thought to his portrayal of the Joker as a Marlon Brando wannabe. Sure, his make-up was nifty and he was probably the best part of the Dark Knight, but that’s not saying much.
On the plus side, one of the big 2009 Oscar winners was the much buzzed about Slumdog Millionaire. The flick took home a truckload of statues, including awards for the film’s soundtrack (although, that win found “Jai Ho” beating out the much raved about “O Saya,” featuring uber-hyped rapper M.I.A.).
